ALSC 2014 Notable Children’s Books for Older Readers

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) identifies the best of the best in children’s books. According to the Notables Criteria, “notable” is defined as: Worthy of note or notice, important, distinguished, outstanding.

2014 YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults List

The books named on this list, recommended for ages 12-18, are considered to have met the criteria of being both good quality literature and appealing reading for teens. 98 books were drawn from 175 official nominations.

Juvenile Literature Award, 2013, Friends of American Writers

The winners of this award will be presented at the May 2014 luncheon of the Friends of American Writers. Navigating Early received unanimous approval by the members of the Literary Awards committee.

Printz Honor Book

Navigating Early
 was selected by YALSA as a Printz Honor Book. The Michael L. Printz Award annually honors the best book written for teens, based entirely on its literary merit, each year. In addition, the Printz Committee names up to four honor books, which also represent the best writing in young adult literature.

Vanderpool was awarded the Newbery Medal in 2011 for her first novel, Moon Over Manifest.
