Transatlantic is pleased to welcome Leanne Milech. Leanne holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph. Her short story “The Light in the Closet” won the top $10,000 prize in ELQ/Exile’s Carter V. Cooper 2018 Short Fiction Competition in the Emerging Writer category. More recently, Leanne published a Tiny Love Story in the New York Times as well as a short piece of nonfiction in O, The Oprah Magazine, where she was included in the Signs and Wonders feature in the December 2019 issue. Leanne’s nonfiction has also appeared in The Humber Literary Review (HLR) and The Globe and Mail. In 2015, she was shortlisted for Room’s Creative Non-Fiction prize. Before attending Guelph, Leanne became a lawyer; many moons before that, she published some short stories in The Queen’s JournalUltraviolet, and Other Voices. In 2004, she won The Writers’ Union of Canada’s Postcard Story competition and read her piece on CBC’s The Sunday Edition. Leanne is an English professor at Humber College, where she serves as Essays Editor of HLR. She lives in Toronto with her fiancée Shannon Alexandra.
