Congratulations to Cary Fagan, whose novel THE STUDENT (Freehand Books) is a 2019 finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Awards in the English Fiction category.

THE STUDENT is a compassionate and compelling work of fiction that brings together two pivotal times in history. With its innovative structure, masterful prose, and intelligently crafted characters, this book illustrates how we are shaped by – and can eventually overcome – the constraints of the times we occupy.

Transatlantic is also celebrating Cary’s nomination in the Illustrated Books category for KING MOUSE, as well as client Gwen Benaway’s appearance on the Poetry list for HOLY WILD!

The Canada Council for the Arts revealed the finalists today in Ottawa. Following a rigorous process, peer assessment committees determined the 70 books that were the best to have been published in Canada in seven categories, in both French and in English. They stood out from among some 1,400 books submitted to the committees. The winners will be announced on October 29. Find the full list of finalists and more information at https://ggbooks.ca/.
