Dr. Maria Timm is a first-generation immigrant from Germany who grew up in North Vancouver, Canada. She has a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Timm has worked in the mental health field for over ten years, including at two provincial jails, which inspired her forthcoming novel. She has volunteered for years with Big Sisters and with the Vancouver Crisis Centre, experiences which have shaped her as a human, clinician, and writer. Dr. Timm has also authored several peer-reviewed academic publications and presented at national and international conferences on topics such as suicide prevention and narrative therapy. She is a licensed psychologist in Texas and currently works as a Care Coordinator for the School of Law and College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.

Her writing has won first place at the Texas Writers’ League Unpublished contest and she has been a three-time finalist at the Pacific Northwest Writers’ Association contest. Dr. Timm aims to use her writing as a vehicle to promote social justice by illuminating the voices of those who are oppressed or marginalized, and to use her platform to facilitate difficult conversations.
