Oubah Osman is a Somali writer and poet from Djibouti. She has been published in 20.35 Africa: An Anthology of Contemporary Poetry, The New Quarterly, and CV2, among others. Her chapbook titled Hereditary Blue was published by Anstruther Press in 2019, and was shortlisted for the bpNichol Chapbook Award. She is an MFA graduate from the University of Guelph. Oubah is based in Scarborough, Canada where she is at work on her debut novel, FIRST GENERATION, a story inspired by Little Women and centering the experience of a Somali immigrant family of four sisters. The novel is a window into a contemporary suburban neighborhood where every household has a different belief, political affiliation, and identity. In FIRST GENERATION, Oubah tells a story about girlhood and what the immigrant dream can look like when women are the dreamers.
