Kay Chronister is a writer of dark and speculative fiction. She is a graduate of the Alpha Workshop and was the winner of the 2015 Dell Magazine Award; her fiction has since appeared in Clarkesworld, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Strange Horizons, Shimmer, Black Static, The Dark and elsewhere. Her first collection of short stories, Thin Places, was published by Undertow Publications in 2020. Currently a PhD candidate in Literature at the University of Arizona, she researches romance, folklore, and politics in eighteenth-century Britain. Kay recently completed her debut novel, DESERT CREATURES, a feminist horror Western pitched in the vein of Inland by Téa Obreht and Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. When not teaching, writing, or scouring archives, she enjoys running, yoga, her dogs, and reading books from this century.
