Deborah Sun de la Cruz at Penguin Canada has acquired English rights in Canada to two novels by the Giller-nominated author of Frying Plantain, Zalika Reid-Benta. The first of the two books, River Mumma, draws from Jamaican folklore and is a magical realist story about a millennial Black woman who navigates her quarter-life-crisis while embarking on a quest through the streets of Toronto. River Mumma is scheduled for publication in Spring 2023, and the deal was brokered by Amy Tompkins of Transatlantic Agency.
