Congratulations to Lue Palmer, who has been awarded the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship to Clarion West! The Carl Brandon Society has donated this scholarship to authors of color, which covers the complete cost of the Clarion Writer’s Workshop, since 2007, in honor of Octavia Butler, who attended the Workshop in 1970 and taught there for many years.

Lue Palmer is a Jamaican-Canadian writer at work on their first novel, The Hungry River. Set against the backdrop of climate change and following the revenge of a group of spirits,  it chronicles a love between Black communities and nature over 250 years and into the future. Lue is represented by Laura Cameron and Samantha Haywood.
