Congratulations are in order!

UP FOR GRABS by Michelle Mulder (DCB Young Readers) has won Gold in the Pre-Teen Fiction category for the 2023 Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards!

Publishing services company Jenkins Group and IndependentPublisher.com created the Moonbeam contest in 2006 as a way to open up awards in children’s publishing to all types of publishers and genres. By developing a contest that would recognize winners in each of the nuanced categories of children’s publishing, IP hoped to bring attention to the under-sung children’s books and their creators who fell between the cracks in larger, more general contests. Twelve years later, we’ve been lucky enough to award and promote hundreds of incredible children’s books, and the Moonbeam Awards contest is now open for its 14th cycle!

About UP FOR GRABS:

A mysterious painting, hidden among the relics of her late grandmother’s house, leads Frida to discover a family link to a notorious unsolved crime.

Frida and her brother, Zac, have lived in seven countries in ten years. In fact, they’ve been travelling for so long that Frida has never considered herself from anywhere — until they inherit their grandmother’s house in Victoria, British Columbia. Zac, always looking for money-making opportunities to fund their travels, is determined to sell everything in the house and expects Frida to help. Now they’re up to their ears in family heirlooms, paintings of dead relatives, vintage paperclips, and ceramic animals.

As Frida explores the neighbourhood, she meets a childhood friend of her grandmother’s, a relentlessly friendly kid named Hazeem who has a knack for finding treasures in the many book-exchange boxes nearby, and a nosy antique dealer who takes an interest in her grandmother’s stuff. A big, sneaking-around-trying-to-break-in-to-the-house kind of interest. Is this strange neighbour looking for something specific? And will Frida and Hazeem figure it out before it’s too late?

Michelle Mulder is an award-winning author of many books for children, including The Vegetable Museum, Home Sweet Neighborhood, and Every Last Drop. When not writing, Michelle loves hanging out in the woods and is currently training to be a forest school mentor. They live in Victoria, British Columbia.

Michelle is represented by Amy Tompkins.
