Transatlantic is proud to share that Cale Plett’s debut YA novel, WAVELENGTH has been acquired by Karen Li and Emma Sakamoto at Groundwood Books!

WAVELENGTH is the story of Sasha, a nonbinary pop star on the run from fame, who meets Lillian, a normal teenage musician recovering from heartbreak. A sort of queer Hannah Montana,  WAVELENGTH offers an ‘own voices’ “what if” duet full of gender euphoria and the queer family warmth of Heartstopper. Publication is scheduled for the fall of 2025.

Amy Tompkins at Transatlantic Agency handled the deal for world rights.

Cale Plett (they/them) is a nonbinary, genderfluid writer from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their short fiction and poetry have been published in journals across Canada, with more forthcoming. Cale’s YA novels span everything from high school rock bands to monsters. They emphasize diverse queer representation in settings where LGBTQ+ characters can exist safely within their identities, leaving space for all sorts of heartbreak, euphoria, and disaster. Cale has a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Winnipeg and recently attended the Emerging Writers Residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Congratulations Cale!
