Priya Jain is a journalist and fiction writer whose essays and reporting about books and culture have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Salon, Slate, O: the Oprah Magazine, Bust, and several other publications. She holds an MA in journalism from NYU and an MFA in creative writing from Stony Brook University, and has received support from the Tin House Writers Workshop, Gotham Writers, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Whether writing magic-inflected fiction or deeply researched nonfiction, her work reflects her interests in Indian colonial history, motherhood, identity, and family memory. Raised in Atlanta, she now lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two kids.

Priya’s first novel, THE LOTUS FACTOR, is an adult literary novel that weaves myth and magic into the fabric of real history to explore the legacy of British colonialism in India. This is a diaspora story that is also a magical quest for Laya, a mother of two, who must figure out how to go on the quest while also caring for her family. For fans of The Magicians and The Immortal King Rao, it will be on offer soon.

Priya is represented by Amanda Orozco.
